Waimea Inlet is the largest estuary in the South Island. Rich in food resources it was coveted by Maori; 33 archaeological sites are known from its shores. Despite its modification, the estuary is considered to be of outstanding biological importance; the abundance of food attracts large numbers of fish; 50 species of wading birds have been recorded and there are rare plants and a carabid beetle found only at Tahunanui Beach.

There are a number of great viewing points of the wading birds in the estuary, but Bronte Peninsular would have to be one of the best. You don’t even have to leave the comfort of your luxury waterfront suite or villa to view these birds as they feed in front of your accommodation.

Nelson Tasman Tourism will represent the region at TRENZ 09, and has a schedule of 43 meetings with buyers.

Vibrant host city Auckland is the international gateway to a country that is consistently rated among the world’s top destinations. TRENZ 2009 will showcase the newest and best we have to offer our visitors.

TRENZ brings together around 1200 New Zealand tourism operators and international buyers for four days of focused business-to-business activity. Operators include luxury accommodation, activities, and transportation providers from across New Zealand.
Recent widespread consultation with the tourism industry has shown that TRENZ continues to be a flagship event for New Zealand’s tourism industry. Keeping New Zealand’s tourism industry on the world stage and giving individual tourism businesses the opportunity to promote their product is seen by operators as a top priority
